On this day: Cristiano Ronaldo signed for Manchester United 12 years ago

12 years ago today, United signed one of the best footballers in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo for a fee of £12.24m at the age of 18 years. He was the first ever Portugese player to sign for the red devils and was given the legendary number 7 shirt. It was revealed that Ronaldo had asked for a different number as he did not want the pressure that Manchester United’s number seven comes with, but Sir Alex insisted that he will be getting the number 7. In 2008 he became United’s first Balon d’Or winner since George Best and the first Premier League player ever to be named FIFA World Player of the Year.
