Manchester United’s new number one goalkeeper.

With David de Gea close to leaving Old Trafford to Real Madrid this summer, the signing of Sergio Romero and speculation that we might sign another goalkeeper by the end of the transfer window, one question that many Manchester United fans have unansweded is, ‘Who will be our number one goalkeeper for the season?’

David de Gea

Louis van Gaal has insisted that he wants to keep David de Gea and that Real Madrid will have to pay a good amount of money for us to let him go.

“He has been our best player for two years chosen by the fans so we cannot let him go easily. We have to pay a lot of money for all the players we want and we want to sell at the same level. We want to keep him, of course. As a keeper, you need the highest concentration for 90 minutes and it’s difficult for David to do that in his current situation. We saw that in the tour matches. When the situation is cleared after 1 September, we’ll look again.”

Sergio Romero

After his début against Tottenham Hotspurs, keeping his first clean sheet, many believe that he can be our number one goalkeeper this season. Although it wasn’t the busiest game possible, he had a couple of good saves which helped United start their season with an important win.

A new signing?
With David de Gea’s uncertain future, and van Gaal’s declaration that Victor Valdes is for sale, United might still be on the look for a new Goalkeeper. Amongst the names being mentioned are Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen and Tottenham Hotspur’s Hugo Lloris.
